Vitamin therapy for AMD improves quality of life - Thursday, July 19, 2007

Researchers used a stochastic microsimulation model to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of vitamin therapy (antioxidants plus zinc) for AMD. Compared with no therapy, vitamin therapy resulted in a cost-effectiveness ratio of $21 387 per QALY gained and lowered the percentage of patients with AMD who developed visual impairment in the better-seeing eye from 7 percent to 5.6 percent.
