Lady with vegetablesWe at Eye Care Center offer top-quality care to Boulder residents who have eye problems such as cataracts, glaucoma and presbyopia.  Our doctors have decades of experience providing eye exams and doing delicate eye operations, and we can help you by removing cataracts so that you can see clearly without glasses.

At the same time, there are some things that you can do to prevent cataracts from appearing in the first place.  Following are some simple, tried and proven cataract prevention tips you may want to consider.

Have Regular Eye Examinations

We offer regular eye examinations and encourage you to have your eyes checked at least once a year.  More frequent eye examinations may be necessary if an eye condition runs in your family and/or you have diabetes.  Frequent examinations enable us to detect eye problems such as cataracts before they become serious.

Wear Sunglasses

It is important to wear sunglasses when going out in the sun, as UV rays are known to cause cataracts.  Be sure the glasses you purchase block UVB rays, as these cause the greatest amount of eye damage.

Eat Right

The foods you eat will have an impact not just on your overall health but also your vision.  A diet rich in fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants that help your vision remain clear and problem-free.  It is important to note, however, that taking antioxidants in pill form has not been proven to have the same effect on your eyes as eating antioxidant-rich foods.

Avoid Smoking and Drinking Alcohol

Drinking alcohol in moderation will not cause eye problems; however, drinking too much has been known to cause glaucoma.  Smoking also causes vision problems (as well as a host of other health problems), so it may be wise to consider quitting smoking as soon as possible.

If you have been diagnosed with or have a suspicion that you may have cataracts, please schedule a visit in Boulder, Longmont or Lafayette with one of our highly-trained specialists as soon as possible.  We offer experienced, professional, friendly care, and are happy to work with you and your insurance regarding a payment plan.  We will give you a full examination, go over your cataract surgery options and help you choose the form of treatment that best suits your individual health needs.

At the same time, we encourage those who do not have cataracts to follow the above guidelines to help prevent developing them over time.  These simple tips can keep your eyes healthy and problem-free, enabling you to see clearly without glasses and providing you with all the freedom you deserve!
