"Taking the field last night was a lil rougher than expected with the chilled temperature at game time. The thought of “Why did we sign up for spring ball “ went thru TEAM ECCNC as we tried to warm up and stretch. Some players, Coachie being one spent a little more time on the stretching part as cold weather + age = possibility of 3rd degree soreness and injury. The stands were pretty much the equivalent of a deserted ghost town. Perhaps no one got the memo that Nikki “Front Desk” Helsley was making her season debut and taking over the right field position for the big game. As the rematch from last season’s championship game started ECCNC quickly shut down their opponent in the first inning and ended the first inning with a 4-0 lead. That lead was matched the following inning as the other team put up runs of their own and the score at the end of the second was 6-5 with ECCNC trailing by one run. What was setting up for a real nail biter quickly turned to a “What Went Wrong” moment. Not much in the form of highlights could be described in this recap as many errors occurred and the defense seemed to fold faster than Kenny Rogers playing poker. There was a slight spark given to the offense of ECCNC as Mike “ I will Hit It To The Fence And Score Easily” Cardwell continued his impressive inside the park home run streak scoring two runs on his left field blast. Nevertheless Mike’s momentum could not carry ECCNC’s effort as the score headed into the final inning was 18-8 and ending in heartbreak fashion of 18-10 in favor of the opposing team. Hearts were broken and frozen tears were chiseled away as TEAM ECCNC left the field. The spirit and bond of ECCNC was not broken or even rattled as there is always the next game for the opportunity for redemption, fun and excitement that makes ECCNC always the best team to be a part of!"
